The Circle Of Dawn arrived back in Darranis after being away for just over five weeks in search of The Heart Of Garlen. On there first morning after arrival Nieliam Tone pays them a visit, firstlt to introduce a prospective character to the group and secondly to inform the group of some odd happenings during their excussion away from Darranis.
Nieliam Tone informs The Circle Of Dawn about three weeks they have a farmer type come into town asking to speak with the Circle Of Dawn and with Kallias in particular. Which on it’s own wouldn’t have been suspicious but the odd thing was the farmer didn’t answer any questions as to way, or where he came from, he just kept asking to speak with the Circle Of Dawn. Nieliam took him and had him checked out and it appeared he had been charmed in some way. A few days latter the poor man came round and had no recollection of what had happened to him, or where he was.
The man also had a large blue gem that Ksarkeni and Eladras checked out and discovered it was a fairly common minor magical item that performs as a scrying device and allows two way communication with the original wielder and a designated person.
After this a week later another man arrived asking for the Circle Of Dawn again and with a similar large blue gem, and as previous the man wasn’t able to communicate until the spell that was affecting him wore of and also had no memory of anything prior.
Nieliam then informs Kallias they have another one in a cell now, currently in the state of not being able to say anything much apart from.
Please direct me to the Circle Of Dawn, I have a message for Kallais
Neilam then says you should come and check it out. Firstly the eager to join the Circle Of Dawn, Fendrak, introduces himself. This is Fendrak a Troll Sky Raider from the Twilight Peeks. Check this page for his background story.
The group familiarise themselves with Fendrak and decide to discuss this over a hearty breakfast at the Raven, seeing as Kor’Milan is only providing porridge, much to Vinessas and kallias dismay.
When the group arrive at the Raven the landlady Camaral, greets them warmly and, and says everything is on the house for the heroes of Darranis, The Circle Of Dawn. She also points out a golden plaque on the wall that clearly states.
The Heroes Of Darranis Lodged Here
The Circle Of Dawn
The group then continue to discuss together over breakfast and many interested patrons listen in to the exciting tales they tell.
After a hearty breakfast the group head for the Constabulary to find out more about these odd messengers with the Blue gems. Neilaim Tone takes them to the cells and the farmer with the gem tells the group that this is from Katak and he has an urgent message to relay to the group and to use the stones as scrying devices and arrange for a meeting. Kallias is none to chuffed about this and after discovering more about the gems decides to remove the connection they have with Katak and sets them to default, thinking they can be used in the future to able to talk to other group members when they are seperated. Fendrak refuses to take one as he doesn’t want to hold anything that has been connected to a horror.
The next day, as pre arranged via Tofus the group, begrudgingly meet up with Thrinain Dinarvey. They revale as little as possible and lie about having the Heart Of Garlen, instead claiming the the Knights Of The Night got to the tomb before they did and believe they may have taken the Heart. This is when the group discover that they were actually sent by Thrinain as she wasn’t sure the Circle Of Dawn would be taking up the quest to find it.
I elected to roll the dice to see if Thrinain Dinarvey would be able to detect their dishonestly and as such let the dice determine what would happen next. I actually roll a 3, so as of yet Thrinain Dinarvey doesn’t suspect the group of lying. However she will find out in the not to distant future, and as such there will be repercussions, but the group are fully aware that this will be the case and will have to deal with it when the problem arises.

After these two meetings the group now set about training, which takes just under a month. Now the training has been completed they decide to spend the night in the comfort of the Raven. During the night they are set upon by a group of four assassins.
Kallais is the first to hear someone trying to pick his door lock, and as is normal for him, he’s a bit of a night owl so is able to quickly act before the intruder opens the door and elects to cast Ethereal Darkness. The door opens and Kallias can it’s a female elf who opens the door quietly, but upon noticing the room is cloaked in darkness immediately alerts the other three in her troop that the Nethermancer is in this room and has cast Darkness.
During the next few rounds the other three in the group wake up to the sounds of combat and engage. The combat ends with two of the assailants, both elves are slain. The other two a Troll and a T’Skrang are knocked out. Vinessa promptly ties them up and gags them before they regain consciousness. Searching all the assailants apart from the weapons, armour and clothes, nothing else is found upon their person. None of them have any distinguishing marks to indicate if they might be part of some group.
However as the Troll starts to struggle against his bonds, Vinessa hears a just about audible rattling. On further examination she discovers it is ciomming from his boot, examining the boot she finds that the heal has a compartment, in which is a Silver Coin with the bust of Garlthik One Eye on one side and a battle scene on the other and it is wrapped in Purple Silk. This is the same as the coin they found that Rhaoz Vik the horror cursed T’Skrang had used to pay for the cursed dagger a few months ago.
She then goes to fetch the guard of the Raven who is fast asleep. After being startled and somewhat embarrassed that he didn’t hear the combat and the fact that he was supposed to be gauding to prevent this kind of thing happening, rushes up stairs and suggests fetching the constabulary.
Kallias decides to make haste and using the spell Nightflyer’s Cloak flies over to the constabulary. Alerts the desk sergeant and sends the other constable with a horse drawn cart to go and collect the bodies and the other two attackers.
During this time the remaining group try and see if the can gain any information out of the remaining two assailants, both refuse to give them any information and say they’d die first than reveal anything to them. One make s a small mistake by saying.
The Eye sees all
You can hide from The Eye
The Eye will find you
Kor’Milan mistakenly connects their comment regarding the Eye for the “Force Of The Eye” which is Garlthik One Eyes public facing spy network. The T’skrang says, What’s Kratas got to do with us? To this assumption and both then stop talking. They and the bodies are taken to the constabulary and will be interrogated during the day.
I made a rookie mistake here. Although I had intended for the attackers all to die, if not in combat then via their poisoned teeth and didn’t anticipate the obvious that they could easily be brought back to life, even when slain. This wasn’t to prevent the group from getting any information, per say, but to create more intrigued about who is now after them for what. I have plans for a later attack by the same group who I planed for them to get information from so I blocked them here, even though there really wasn’t a good reason for doing this than tension.
I was going to have them all die irretrievably but then in the moment I realised that would be totally unsatisfactory. Saying the EYE was a mistake, then I realised I wasn’t prepared for this and needed time to think, hence why I made it difficult to get information from the survivors. I should have just said that rather than stall the way I did in game.
The learn here is not to put an artificial wall up when the truth is I wasn’t prepared so needed some time to work it through. Just be honest and tell them straight next time.
The revealing of “The Eye” doesn’t really matter in retrospect, the group made a jump to the Garlthiks Spy Network, when they actually know they are in possession of one of the Eye’s Of Isineke.
In the morning the new member of the Circle Of Dawn entertains the locals with highly exaggerated tales of what happening in the early hours of the morning ensuring ensuing that his legend is spread. He takes all the plaudits and claims he took the four assassins out single handedly, the locals lap it up and are mightily impressed with the newest member of the circle. Kallias is more than happy to allow this, as it gives him some peace and quiet whilst having is breakfast.

Before deciding to set of to their next destination, which is haven outside Parlainth they have two people left to talk to. Glinain Thany to relay the sad message that his home village of Hoewen has been destroyed by a horror. Saddened by this news Glinain Thany then makes haste to gather together a group of Adepts to return to his village and see what he can do and also to give his family and friends a decent burial.
The next person is Jaralan Elmar the wizard that asked the group a few months ago to try and locate the Stone Of Metamorphosis, which he suspected lay in Kear Argemon which also had the tomb of Undast Valzal The Immortal King.
The group blatantly lie to him and tell him nothing regarding the tomb. They don’t tell him that Undast Valzal was lain to rest there. Now do they tell him that the Stone Of Metamorphosis was indicated to the group via Garlen themselves lies in Parlainth. Jaralan doesn’t give up and continually tries to get as much information from the group as possible about the place they found, but they continue to lie. They try to get some information out of him, as yo who he is working for, however he refuses to divulge this information, as their patron would like to remain anonymous.
The group really had no reason not to tell Jaralan Elmar that what they found was a tomb and not a kear and that Undast Valzal lay there. They could have also honestly said that they didn’t;’t find the stone, and then lied about it being in Parlainth. During this discussion I kept trying to get the group to give Jaralan Elmar some information, as currently he is the only one that the group know off who knows anything about the stone.
Now the group are heading to Haven, to find the stone with zero information on it’s whereabouts and they are highly unlikely to just stumble upon it whilst there. I have no intention now to make locating the stone easy. They have chosen to lie and as such there will be repercussions. Jaralan Elmar will send another adept group to the Tomb and then discover that the group lied. He will then send another group to find the Circle Of Dawn and why they lied. Unfortunately they have now lost all the trust they had in a significant player in this plot and will now struggle to move forward.
Obviously I will give them hints as to the stones whereabouts, but they will have to work for it and they will go down many dead ends. I am thinking that I will actually let Isineke’s side find the stone, if I do that, then this will make the final battle significantly harder, but that’s what happens when you just lie for no good reason. However I haven’t yet decided what I will do yet.
The group then prepare to travel to Haven outside Parlainth. When at the harbour they are very surprised to notice that it is extremely busy. There are boast behind boast waiting to dock. The ones that are docked are taking onboard large quantities of various supplies. Food stuffs, speciality Ales, building materials, including tools, and tents and a large variety of many other things needed for a growing town. Many people are queuing up to board the countless boats and the general talk is that Tansiarda is requiring all kinds of people, as they is now significant construction work going on, and that the bridge has recently been completed.
Borrum 26th 1518 TH
The journey to Tansiarda takes six days in total and they arrive late afternoon. The first thing they notice is the presence of two airships. The first they have seen before, this being the Hammer Of Dragons of the Night Sky Dragons Troll moot. The other is one they have not yet seen and is the Fire Storm of the Fire Blades Troll Moot for the northern parts of the Caucavic Mountains.
Upon docking at the harbour, as at Darranis there are fifty or so river boats in various stages of docking and unloading all the materials. In the distance they can see many buildings are being constructed. Walking through the village to the inn The Welcoming Demon they stayed at previously, they notice a huge field with hundreds of tents and people from all races milling about. Entering the inn, it is chock full and rooms are now prices extortionately high, some 500 silver pieces, even for a tent in the field it is 100 to 200 SP. People with their own tents still need to pay 50 silver pieces each.
In the Inn Vinessa notices a few people she has seen before, namly Athell Aegod of the Blood Skulls and Yegoth Lecha, captain of the Night Sky Dragons. She chats with them to ascertain what’s going on ion town. She then continues to chat to other interesting patrons, which I will detail in next weeks post.
One of the things that was discussed in the after game chat was the fact that the players characters would have zero interest in all the factions that are now present in Tansiarda. But as players they don’t want to run away from a plot, which is obviously here. For obvious reasons I couldn’t tell them why, but that I was prepared for the characters not to give two hoots about what is happening here and will just want to head on towards haven the following day.
This is also what I have said in out Frank-Feedback channel on Discord
You’re not here in Tansiarda to sort out the bridge problem. You’re here and the bridge problem is happening. That’s what I should have said last night. You may choose to get more involved at a later stage, but if you decide not to because that’s not what your character is interested in that is 100% fine. Do not think you’re running away from a plot, as you’re not. You can obviously choose to investigate the bridge problem further if you please. Honestly, you can ignore it all and leave.
There is, as I said, a hook for something else here. [There’s actually two clear hooks and one not so clear]
I am fully aware of what your CHARACTER’S desires are, so please don’t think I’ve created something that you’re CHARACTER’S would ignore, to try and get you as PLAYERS to play out. You’re to good at playing you’re CHARACTER’S, so I have that in mind all the time. All I ask is when you feel I’ve put something in front of you that you think your character wouldn’t give two hoots about, have patience, play it as your CHARACTER’S would and then the hook happens.
I am fully aware of what your CHARACTER’S desires are. Which is different to you as PLAYERS, that’s another aspect that takes a little longer to figure out. The “What’s Fun For You” helped, it just happened too late for the dungeon.
Now I’ll see if they bite or not, hopefully they will, if not no loss as most of this can be used elsewhere, especially in Haven which has lots of faction fighting.
