The Grim Legion
Sollus 18th 1518 TH
This part was skipping in the previous session due to a miscommunication, so is picked up at the start of this session.
Cowenbruew Raffin The Resplendent advises the group rpiro to their meeting to ensure they don’t incriminate themselves, and advises not to mention the Eyes Of Isineke.
The group learn that the Grim Legion consists of seven members, all are Obsidimen. They quiz the group regarding their encounter with Isineke and inform that this horror is known off and has been in existence for the last three or even more scourges. Unlike many horrors this horror has desires, but these are not yet know, but it is known that he is searching for items to achieve this goal, whatever that may me. The Grim Legion also inform the group that Isineke may have had, or has, a pact with the mad passion Raggok.
The Grim Legion also inform the group that the Legion Of The Hand are a renegade outfit and as such an unsanctioned group, that are wanted for questioning for some of their recent barbaric activities. They are also informed that they believe some, if not all in the Legion Of The Hand, may have been corrupted by horror themselves. They believe it may actually be Isineke and that they have an item that allows them to commune with this horror.
The group are also informed that they were on the trail of the Caravan Of Wonders as they had been selling Horror Cursed Items, cursed by Isineke and that all such items of this horror will all have a red ruby encased within them.
Omar talks extensively with Xan who is a 12th Circle Scout and 5th Path Horror Stalker and is quite surprised to hear him speak of his three Horror Marks so openly.
The Grime Legion set of for Hoewen the next day.
Back To Hoewen
Riag 2nd 1518 TH
The group now spends the next two weeks training up to Circle 4 and then set off for Hoewen as the Eyes of Isinenke return immediately on both Kallias and Omar after trying to get rid of them. The group now believe they need to do something about this with the utmost urgency and set off for Hoewen.
As you get closer to Hoewen they see up ahead a thick dark cloud throwing a menacing shroud over what must be the whole village. As they look at this cloud they can see it swirling and writhing as if some fiend resides within. It is throwing off tendrils in all directions as if they are trying to grab hold of something unseen.
On the familiar route to the village, in the thick bush either side of the path they see the remains of an Obsidiman, who has been ripped asunder. Their body parts have been stacked upon one another, torso, legs, then arms, and head on top facing North towards the village. They recognize the Obsidiman as one of the Grim Legion, being Fofar the 12th Circle Wizard and 5th Path Messenger.
As they get nearer to the village they see with horror that almost all of the buildings have been flattened, the few that do stand are crumbling. Then they hear an ear splitting scream, followed by the cries of help, it sounds like a child.
They get closer and indeed it is, what looks like a child just sitting on the floor stroking a dog, that looks as if it died days ago.
I have no idea what happening here with the group, I gave them the above descriptions, expecting the group to start to prepare and buff the party, as to me this is obviously leading them into a very dangerous area. But nope, they just keep moving forward without any thought of preparation or plan. One of the players mentioned afterwards, that regardless of how intelligent a player is normally, when plying in an RPG they suddenly have some secret brain surgery that removes any intelligence they had temporarily for the gaming session. LOL.
As the group get closer the dog springs to life and charges for Omar, at this he notices that this dog does indeed look dead and the small girl shouts “No, no come back rex, come back rex.” Omar instinctively slays the dog almost immediately. Then many strange things happen whilst a huge battle commences.
This battle lasts for the next two plus hours of the session to its end. Essentially the party are at first confused as they are being attacked by children, children that they recognise from the village during their last visit here. So at first they don’t really know what to do about the children so pull their blows and try to hold them down. But as the encounter continues it becomes very apparent that this children may look the same but are certainly not children and thus the fight turns to being lethal.
I enjoyed the fact that the group were totally confused at the start and didn’t know what the correct course of action to take was, that was my intention. They eventually came round to realising they needed to fight, but even then they were unsure.
They’re Not Children
The combat continues as the group now realise that whatever these creatures are they are most certainly not children. As whatever they are, they are able to cast high circle spells and often. Omar after being engulfed in flames from a fireball decides reasons that this may be an illusion as they are casting spells that he hasn’t seen from the Adepts in the group. This turns out to be true and the fireball dissipates causing no damage. However Omar still proceeds to attack using stun damage only.
Kallias tried to cast Dispel Magic on one of the children and rolled quite high, however for some reason, not listening properly probably. I gave a description of the child believing Kallias had used Astral Sight on the child. The giving of this extra information I believe was then used to by the group to then attack with lethal prejudice. However I don’t feel it was a bad move by myself as I wanted to know this anyway, but had planned to hand out this information later on.
The group now revert to lethal attacks from this point onwards. The group are continually assaulted seemingly by endless enemies. These being villages who now look undead, and more tainted Obsidimen.
Katak Saves The Day
As the fight intensifies and more and more enemies arrive, the appearance of 14 skeletons is the last straw and forces the group to try and make a hasty retreat.
As the group make haste to escape the combat, they suddenly start to hear sounds of rumbbeling as building seem to be knocked over and over one of the buildings there stands Katak The Friendly Horror, upon seeing the Circle Of Dawn he smailes and says.
Why Hello there, let me clean this mess up for you
As the last enemy falls the air before the group starts to shimmer, and becomes distorted, and fluctuates before their eyes, as the images they have seen change and slowly merge away as the true buildings are seen.
The destroyed buildings fade away as the village they have seen before reappears, and although most buildings are still damaged, more so than when they were last here, they are not as levelled as they first appeared.
the group look around they can see the top of The Village Hall has also been destroyed
The black cloud above slowly spins, and retracts, as long tendrils are thrust out as if trying to grab hold of something unseen. As it becomes smaller and disappears the group hear a sound. What’s that a laughter or a low rumble of thunder they know not.
Katak’s appearance at this time was a total surprise to the group as they believed their first encounter with this horror was just for flavour. Katak has a significant role to play in the main plot of this story. Some of that becomes clear in the next session.
The cloud is created by Isineke who is still in it’s astral form and uses this cloud to be able to see what is happening and still have control over the creatures it has turned. When Katak arrived to save the day, Isineke retreated back to the astral plane, for now.
