The Circle Of Dawn recover from the battle and decide to visit Rhaoz Vik parents in Brick Town and return the Golden Chain that he used to purchase the Cursed Gold Dagger with. As they make their way they are set upon by Larac Domac and three thugs, who’s sole intent appears to be to kill Vinnesa.
Larac Domac seemed to be using illusion magic as there were 4 duplicates of him. One throws a Dagger at Vinessa and as it flies towards her, it splits into three separate daggers, all of which strike and knock Vinessa to the ground instantly. As the group continue to fight they find that when striking any of the Larac Domac duplicates they just disappear immediately upon being struck.
The group knowing that Larac Domac is an Illusionist somehow forget, or believe they can’t try and disbelieve these images. This was discussed post session and I asked why they didn’t choose to disbelieve the duplicates. I didn’t get a convincing answer, so I chalked it up to just not thinking in the mists of combat. One thing that did come up, was not all illusions can be disbelieved, but regardless off that, I said I would have allowed it for this particular spell. Which was a variant on the Phantom Warrior spell, that I just used for flavour rather than as detailed in the Players Guide Pg 304.
One huge issue that did come up after the session was the fact that they believed the combat wasn’t balanced for their particular circle and taking Vinessa out of combat so early, wasn’t desirable.
Although I conceded that Larac Domac, being a 6th Circle Thief, Illusionist, may have been overpowered for the group, I also believed the groups tactics were poor and that they didn’t take the opportunity to disbelieve the duplicate images of Larac Domac. If they had done that, then they would have had one high level character to face off against and 3 none adept thugs.
Furthermore the player of Vinessa didn’t take his character being taken out of the fight unfair and that it didn’t detract from their version of what they deemed to be fun.
Two positive things did came out of these discussion, which did get somewhat heated at times. Firstly balancing combat and giving the players other options, having more variety during the fight. I have since taken this on board and I now create lists of possible things that could happen during a combat encounter. For me I need the lists, as once in the heat of battle I rarely have the capacity to think of interesting things to add, change, or to increase, or decrease the challenge.
Secondly we discussed what fun was to each other personally. This is still being discussed and a questionnaire will be filled out by all the players. I have written a post regarding this here.
Eight To Go OR Cold Blooded Murder
After several rounds of combat the group manage to prevail and knock out Larac Domac. The three thugs, an Ork, Dwarf and T’Skrang surrendered and plead for leniency. The Circle Of Dawn interrogate them and discover that they had just been hired Larac Domac to ruff the group up and were paid 100 Silver Pieces each. Eventually the group let the thugs go.
Looking at the now unconscious Larrac Domac they see he has changed into an Eleven woman which Vinessa immediately recognises as Lucretia Dominica a woman that she has searched for who played a part in the death of her family.
The group then head towards Restorers Rest with the severely injured Vinessa. They decide to take the Elven woman, Lucretia Dominica, to their home for further interrogation in private. After a few hours of trying to get information out of her the group discuss what to do and leave the fate of Lucretia Dominica in the hands of Vinessa. Vinessa then kills Lucretia Dominica in cold blood and as such the whole group are now party to this act. As the group carried her through town in broad daylight for all to have seen, they will have to explain what happened to her.
The group believe they have gotten away with this, but I have informed them that there will be repercussions for this heinous act, sooner rather than later. I have decided I let them complete the quest they currently decide to do at the end of this session. once that is completed they will have to face up to what they have done. They are known in Darranis as heros for the good acts they have previously done and have been awarded the key to the town and given a house. I decided to move forward with the main story for now, but I will not be leaving this act unpunished.
Rather oddly the group agreed on what they would say to the Constabulary, but for some unknown reason Vinessa, made everything more complicated and suspicious. To the point that the desk Sergeant on the night shift after taken down the details discarded of the report. He had previously asked for the groups autographs and has been in awe with them since their arrival. However the group are not aware of this and nearly balls up it up.

In the morning Nieliam Tone comes round in the morning unaware of Lucretia Dominica’s death. Kor’Millan chooses to be proactive with Nieliam, when he realises that he is unaware of the issue in the hopes of ensuring the murder doesn’t besmirch the Circle Of Dawn’s reputation. Kor’Millan does make good with his story and Nieliam Tone believes the story he has been told.
However unknown causes of deaths in Darranis are always investigated with the aid of a Nethermancer who converses with the dead to gain the facts.
The group eventually talk to the Grim Legion. But; at that point in the game, wires got crossed and I believed the group didn’t want to role play the Grim Legion discussion. So that was quickly skipped in error. This is retconned at the start of Session 14 as important information needed to be relayed to the group.
The group then begin to discuss what they are going to do next. Omar also makes a suggestion to have someone keeping an eye on their new home and makes the suggestion to ask Iffis if he would like to do this for the group. The rest of the group are not interested in this suggestion and reject the idea. Omar does go and check up on Iffis, just to be sure he’s getting his life back and track. Iffis thanks Omar for this and even says that, it was the best thing to happen to him, meeting the group, as without that happening he wouldn’t be where he is now. He also says he is studying to become a Questor Of Garlen and if the group need him for anything to be sure to ask.

Kallias and Omar continue to be haunted by the eyes of Isineke, they keep getting rid of them for them to reappear back in their possess a few days latter. The interval between them reappearing is now getting shorter, by one day at a time. By the 1st of Riag the Eyes Of Isineke return immediately. Just popping them on a table in front of them and they instantly disappear and reappear in their pockets.
Kallias looks at the eyes using Astral sight and can now clearly see that a Black Stone White Flecked tendrel emanating from the rubies, that looks like an arm of Isineke, is now griping hold of them. Both Omar and Kallis realise that they need to do something about this sooner rather than later.
However, I failed to notice this during the game and rather than let them make plans to go to Hoewen and the tainted life rock I erroneously introduced a new quest, which the group were not to chuffed about and I assumed they were thinking that I was railroading them again. I didn’t realise this until after the quest details had been given, at which juncture they started to make plans to go back to Hoewen.

STONE OF METAMORPHOSIS
Jaralan Elmar. Elf: 10th Circle Wizard: Looks very old and talks with a quivering voice
Greetings, fellow adepts. My friend, the merchant Glinain Thany has advised me to speak with you. He informed me that you are a group that can be trusted with a mission of utmost importance to myself and and another interested party I have close relationships with. He, Glinain informs me you have previously helped out his friends and family in his home village of Hoewen. And that you have taken on other work unasked for and continue to help Darranis. I could use such people, such people as brave and honourable adepts like yourselves.
There was a day long ago where a person of an Adept Discipline could always be trusted without question. Sadly those days seem to have long gone. You however have been recommended highly by my friend Glinain and that my friends is worth more to me,
So will you help me, I promise you will be rewarded handsomely.
You look the man over who is very elderly, frail elf, his arm quivering as his weight is supported on a beautifully carved walking stick, however, his eyes still look clear and lively. His clothes are made from very fine and colourful silks. The colour of which slowly cycles between all the colours of the rainbow. He stands awaiting for you to reply.
Excellent! “My Name is Jaralan Elmar, a Wizard. I have been conducting research into a magical treasure for some time and I believe I have finally learned about its resting place. Now I need someone to go and recover it, or at least verify that it is where I expect it to be. The journey will take a few weeks, there and back.
However I have yet to receive the map I was promised some two months ago by a mutual acquaintance of mine and Gilian’s. His name is Kirdar Oakenfury, a very experienced Dwarf Adept.
Skilled at finding and disarming traps and able to open any safe. I have used his service many times to secure my home and possessions, he does provide a most excellent service and is highly trusted. Perhaps when you return and have found him he could secure your new home I hear was awarded to you recently, for all the good deeds you have done for Darranis
He was helping me to find the specific location of a Kear, that unfortunately none of it’s inhabitants had survived the scourge. I got word a few months ago that this Kear. Kear Argemon had been cleared many years ago, and it’s unfortunate inhabitants given a respectable burial nearby. Fearing that the item I am searching for had already been found I hired Kirdar to confirm if this was indeed true. I then received a letter recently via a caravan that the stories were not true and that the kear was still very much intact.
Not wanting to entrust it’s location to anyone he choose to say he will await myself or a group I choose to send to meet him in a village North of Denlikiyan along the Northern reaches of the Serpent River. The village is home to at most 10 farming families and lies approximately a a few hours walk from Denlikiyan, it is called Kendarin.
Now what I require from you is to head to this village, meet up with Kindar, retrieve the map and then locate the Kear. Once you have found the Kear to then retrieve the item I am in search of. If it even exists.
For this I will pay for all your expenses and 2000 SP each, half in advance should you be willing to undertake this dangerous journey. Are you interested?
The item is “The Stone of Metamorphosis”, a large pearl over two inches in diameter on a beautiful golden chain.
All I know about Kear Argemon is that it’s located somewhere on the North Eastern slopes of the Throal Mountains. And so I have hired many parties of adventurers to try and locate this Kear throughout the mountain side for many, many years, I had begun to fear I would never discover it’s location, until now.
I don’t know what Kidar has found, but his note was very optimistic. So I ask of you to meet with Kirdar, give him this note and he will then advise you on what he has found. Hopefully it is indeed the map to the location of Kear Argemon. If so I ask of you to confirm the Kear does indeed exists and to try and locate the item and retrieve it, or at the very least confirm what Kirdar has hinted at to me.
He gives the group a sealed letter to be given to Kirdar upon arrival.
Once he has received the letter and confirmed who you are, then he will give you the map. Please do not try to open this letter as it is magically sealed and any attempt to open it will severely hurt the person who tries. I’m sure you understand the need for secrecy in this matter.
Kindar will let you read the letter once he has opened it, so you can feel comfortable that nothing untoward has been written.
I first read about this stone many, many years ago, and during my studies I was able to discover was that this stone has several powers.
I have read that it was used by many leaders for many millennia. It’s power allows the wielder to transform into any creature or name giver. It is also rumoured that once the transformation has occurred then the user will instantly know all that the name giver they have transformed into currently knows.
Also, the stone was used, as the story goes, to predict the future and therefore to be able to foresee any horror attacks during the scourge and that the Kear that possessed it would be the safest of all Kears.
Which, if not all of these powers it possess I truly don’t know. Still I believe it to be an ancient magical item from many millennia ago. If only a fraction of this information is true, I’m sure you can see it is a mighty power item, that belongs in the hands of trusted rulers.
“The Stone of Metamorphosis” lasts rumoured owner was a Dwarven leader who’s realm spanned the North Eastern slopes of the Throal Mountains. However during my research I have not found any specific information about this leader, no name, no titles. Therefore I believe these stories to be mere fabrications. I have, however discovered that before this time it was held by the leaders of the Elven Court in Wyrmwood. I believe the last owner was Queen Dallia, who was slain by the Dragon Alamaise due to her refusal to acknowledged that the Great Dragon was the true ruler of Wyrmwood. The story then gets very murky, only tiny references to the stone could I find. Until a most fortunate haul of books found it’s way to the Throal Library and I was able to decipher some of the ancient language, which then lead me to possible locations of Kear Argemon.
The group however decide to delay going on this quest, and with hindsight, as mentioned above, I shouldn’t have introduced it at this stage. But I managed to recover in the end and and had Jaralan inform the group come and speak with him when they return. However my plots are on a timeline so this little adventure will change significantly.
Another lesson learned here is to shorten my monologues. In the future, I will introduce the character and the quest details via questioning and answering, rather then a long spiel, that only ensures any specific information is lost or forgotten.
